This class is for Citizen Firearms Instructors Only!

In explaining the genesis of this class, I must start with my Law Enforcement journey. For the same reason, the training I provide officers benefits responsibly armed citizens, my experience helping law enforcement instructors update their programs benefits instructors teaching citizens.

The class is based on my experience designing and presenting training to students of all levels. I began teaching as a Police Academy instructor in 1994 and firearms instructor in 2005. The courses I taught included Use of Force, Enforcement, Tactics, and Firearms. I became a student of the learning process itself. I studied how others taught. I became a teacher of teachers through classroom and firearms instructor certification classes.

In 2013 while teaching Basic Firearms Instructor classes, many of the methods I used were more effective than traditional ones. New instructors graduated with methods their program leaders had not been exposed to. I created Firearms Instructor Update to share a new way to design and deliver firearms training. For ten years now, I have taught instructors from Local, County, Sate, and Federal Agencies. This year I am offering my second Firearms Instructor Development class to citizen Instructors.

To facilitate a more comprehensive learning experience, there will be two zoom classroom sessions accompanying the class. The introductory session will take place prior to the class. Following the class there will be a post session. The zoom sessions will be about two hours each.

Safety - Everyone thinks they are safe; I always thought was until I was shown a different approach. Learn to see safety on a deeper level and make it part of your training on a fundamental level.

In the Police Academy, I teach firearms about eight hundred hours per year to cadets, officers, and other instructors. My experience provides valuable insight into how teaching methods translate to student improvement. I have guided many new instructors, experienced instructors, and agencies in training development.

Public or citizen instructors receive their instructor certifications from large organizations which understandably are more structured and often less adaptable. This one-day format is primarily focused on conditioning safe shooters, improving coaching methods, and understanding human behavioral responses affecting training methods. It includes core shooting fundamentals but focuses more on how to reach.

Prerequisite:

You must hold a Firearms Instructor Certification.

You must be open-minded, that is to say, what you believe to be right, may not be.

You must have Safe Weapons Handling.

Safe weapons handling is more important than your marksmanship skills. Attendees exhibiting unsafe weapons handling will be removed from training without a refund.

Range Fees are an additional $20

The ETTS Waiver must be competed online prior to arrival.

Range Information

ETTS is an outdoor range in the elements. The ground is dirt and can get muddy when it rains; please be aware of the weather when dressing. The store has limited supplies. There are restrooms but they are not near our bay.

Bring comfort items like sunscreen, bug spray, portable chairs, and food.

Safety Policy

Conditioning safe shooters is a mission we take very seriously. Safety is important during training to avoid accidents, but safe weapons handling must be conditioned for it to become habitual under stress. Each class or lesson begins with a safety brief to establish expectations and consequences for unsafe behavior. Minor violations are common in the beginning and will be remediated. Major violations can result in termination of training or removal from group classes.
